How To Tell Our 9 Year Old Daughter Her Father Is Going To Die?

We recently found out that my husband has pancreatic cancer and likely has around a year left to live. The biggest question that we have is how and when to tell out 9 year old daughter. We have consulted doctors, our therapist, and our priest and they have all given us different answers. My husband wants to wait and spend the time he has left with her without worrying her, but I think it will be easier if we tell her early on to give her time to mentally prepare. Frankly, I just don’t know what to do. If anyone has any suggestions it would really be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Need Advice. Mother Thinks Father Is Healed.?

Hello all. Please give advice if you can. My father has pancreatic cancer. It is untreatable and he is dealing with symptoms. Eventually, the will get worse and worse. However horrible this reality is, my family tries to keep positive and stay together.
I was not raised to be religious at all. Since my father was diagnosed my mother has turned to god which I think is great. I have too in my own way.
The problem is that my mother thinks my father has been healed by a miracle. I am not saying that this cannot happen. I just think my mother is denying it and she is setting herself up for some big dissapointment.
I go to healing mass with her and pray and listen and I am there for her as much as I can be. I am open minded to the fact that god can perform this miracle.
But, if he does not I need religious advice on what to do with my mom. Please help.

I’m 13 at the moment and using my sister’s account. Don’t worry she said I could!
Last year my father was admitted into hospital. It was unknown what was wrong with him. Eventually he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer… He didn’t want to tell me and when I asked him, he told me it was something about his liver. My mum told me the truth, that he had cancer.
He was in there for 6weeks. And in that short time he deteriorated. He had a wish and that was to go home. From the day he went to the hospital, he never got out. The day we were going to take him home, his health was horrible. He was extremely skinny. He was losing consciousness, but fighting. My dad was never one to give up. But he couldn’t win. He lost consciousness. My older sister Melanie, stayed there overnight with her boyfriend and my older brother Alex and his wife. They were in a private room. After the third day he was unconscious, my mum picked me up from school to take me there. I went home got changed and we went to the hospital. I walked down the aisle, to his room. I walked in and Alex,Mel and everyone else was standing there. Mel hugged me and said “I’m so sorry” and I knew what she meant. I couldn’t believe it.
Later that night , we went home to dad’s house (my mum and him were split). I was a zombie. I played the Cars game on X-box with my niece, like nothing was wrong. But I was hurting. I didn’t want it to show to my family. It would just make things worse.
Since then I’ve gotten better. But I just can’t get over it. No one knows. I cry myself to sleep alot and I’m still in pain.
I want to get over it. I act normal but I’m not. I don’t know what to do…
I haven’t spoken to anyone about it. My mum isn’t helpful at all! And my sister has her own problems.
Thanks…

Computer-Science professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, and who is terminally ill with Pancreatic Cancer? He was first diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in Sept. of 2006, and it is April of 2008 now, so that was 19 months ago. Most people who are diagnosed (75%) of people die within the first year, so, Randy is fortunate to have lasted this long. I have been following his Health Update page
http://download.srv.cs.cmu.edu/~pausch/news/
since I saw his Last Lecture speech on youtube. Anyway, if you read about all the health operations and procedures he has gone through, it actually pisses me off a bit. The average American doesn’t have the kind of health insurance to afford all of these treatments, however Randy, because of his job at the University, probably has great health insurance, but he NEVER ever mentions this on his health update page. He never says how fortunate he is to have this insurance. Watch Michael Moore’s Sicko film and you’ll see how

My father died this past week after battling pancreatic cancer. My husband and I are thinking about trying to have a baby. I would like to have a part of my father’s name in the baby’s name. His name was Rick Alan (1st and middle name). If we have a boy, my decision is simple. If it’s a girl, I’m not sure how to incorporate my father’s name into her name. To use Alan, I thought about Alana. Any other ideas? Thank you.
